Museveni to rule longer as ruling party proposes constitutional change

Uganda’s ruling party, the National Resistance Movement (NRM), conference has now passed a resolution calling for the amendment of the Constitution by Parliament, to lift the Presidential age limit from the current 75 years to none.

According to the Chairperson of the NRM conference, popularly known as Kyankwanzi, Anne Maria Nankabirwa, the ruling party wants the age limit requirement lifted to allow capable leaders continue with leadership despite their old age.

The Ugandan constitution provides that a person is not qualified for election as president unless that person is not less than 35 years and not more than 75 years of age.
