Muslim cleric gets 10 years for child sex tourism

A Muslim cleric was today (Monday) sentenced to 10 years in jail for child sex tourism.

While delivering the ruling, Senior Resident Magistrate Judicaster Nthuku said that the law stated that anyone who facilitated travel with the intention of commission of a sex offence was guilty of sex tourism.

The magistrate further added that the prosecution had proven that Sheihk Samoja facilitated the travel of a minor to Nairobi.

Sheikh Ali Samoja had been accused of trafficking an underage girl to Nairobi on unknown dates in July 2011 where she was repeatedly defiled by a Lebanon national, Sayyid Muktadha.
Sheikh Samoja, a cleric at Bilal Muslim Mission in Nakuru and a father of four, was arrested on the 16th of December 16, 2011 at the Jomo Kenyatta International Airport as he prepared to travel to Lebanon.
