Former Machakos Senator, Johnson Muthama,  has been released on personal bond of Ksh. 500, 000 following fresh charges of hate speech and incitement to violence.

Muthama was on Friday re-arraigned in court over allegations of hate speech utterances made during a press conference on June 13, 2016 at Capitol Hill, where he purportedly said  he would create chaos and forcibly storm the Inspector General’s office if “certain people” were not arrested.

The reinstated charges came after High Court judge, Grace Macharia, dismissed a lower court’s ruling to dismiss the former Senator Muthama’s case on the basis that the Director of Public Prosecutions, Keriako Tobiko, abused his powers.

The former senator was released on a cash bail of Ksh300,000 mid last month after pleading not guilty to incitement to violence charges when he arrested alongside Gatundu South MP Moses Kuria.

Senator Muthama had allegedly challenged President Uhuru Kenyatta and his deputy, William Ruto, a physical fight at Uhuru Park while addressing a rally in Kajiado.
