Mutunga wants Judiciary officials audited as EACC gets new commissioners

The Chief Justice Dr. Willy Mutunga has now written to the Ethics and Anti Corruption Commission (EACC) to carry out lifestyle audit on all top Judiciary officials starting with Supreme Court Judges.

Speaking at the Supreme Court after the swearing in of new EACC Chair Philip Kinisu and four other Commissioners, Mutunga disclosed that he is ready to submit `his wealth declaration to the anti graft body.

The Chief Justice has also promised that the Judiciary will fast track corruption cases currently before the courts and warned the new EACC officials to be ready to face hurdles from politicians in the fight against corruption.

Speaking after being sworn in, the new anti graft chief expressed optimism t hat his team will succeed in the fight against.

Attorney General Prof. Githu Muigai, who was also present, challenged the commission to lead the war against graft fearlessly.

Early December, EACC chair Phillip Kinisu, then a nominee, vowed to re-evaluate the existing tactics used in the fight against corruption and deal with any challenges that may arise.

Speaking during a vetting session conducted by the National Assembly Justice and Legal Affairs Committee, Kinisu said he would study factors that have impeded the fight against corruption in his first 100 days in office, whether it is linked to political interference or lack of coordination, and put up measures to deal with the challenges.

He added that he would be stern in fighting graft and wade off political interference from all quarters, including the President.

Other commissioners who were sworn in include Dabar Abdi Maalim, Philip Mwaniki, Sophia Lepuchirit and Rose Mghoi Mtambo Macharia.
