Muturi declines to admit Opiyo to Parliament despite court ruling
The National Assembly Speaker Justin Muturi has declined to obey a court order reinstating suspended Ugunja MP Opiyo Wandayi.
Muturi ruled that the suspended Ugunja MP will remain out of the House until the Parliamentary Privileges Committee meets on July 19th to determine his fate.
Muturi said Wandayi remains a stranger in Parliament after his suspension in March, when he was forcefully ejected from Parliament for disrupting President Uhuru Kenyatta’s State of the Nation Address.
This comes just hours after Wandayi threatened to sue the Muturi for contempt of court.
Wandanyi, through lawyer Anthony Aluoch, told High Court Judge Joseph Onguto that Muturi has declined to obey orders by High Court Judge George Odunga that suspended the decision barring him from attending Parliament sessions till the end of remaining part of the current session.
