Mututho links cartels to drug trafficking

National Campaign Against Drug Abuse (Nacada) chairman John Mututho has linked “well connected cartels” to cases of drug trafficking in the country.

Speaking in Naivasha on Saturday, Mututho said unless the law is changed to enhance the fight against drugs, it will be impossible to fight the vice that has led to the destruction pf many youths’ lives.

Mututho spoke after police arrested a 37-year-old woman on Friday after she was reportedly found with heroin worth Ksh10 million.

The woman was arrested along the Nairobi-Nakuru highway for allegedly ferrying the drugs to Nairobi from Kampala, Uganda in a bus owned by Modern Coast Limited.

“We got information that a 54-seater bus travelling from Kampala passing through Busia had a passenger suspected to be carrying drugs stashed in brooms. We acted immediately, nabbing the woman at Muthuri area,” said Naivasha District Commissioner Mr John Mbaya.

The Nacada chair asked legislators to pass laws to make the Mututho Law and Nacada laws work independently and effectively.
