Mututho orders postmortem of persons killed by illicit liquor

NACADA Chairman John Mututho has now ordered for exhumation of a body buried last week in Gatundu, Kiambu county to allow for a postmoterm to determine the kind of liquor the deceased consumed.

Reacting to a story aired by Citizen TV on Friday, Mututho said that as NACADA chair and the architect of the Alcoholic Drinks Control Bill that saw the enactment of the alcoholics control act popularly known as Mututho law, he will not sit back and watch as youth get ruined by illicit brews due to laxity by administration personnel and the county governments.

Mututho, who was speaking during a visit to the families, further put on notice illicit liquor brewers in Gatundu Sub County to close down their illegal businesses or face the full wrath of the law.

The story aired on Citizen TV exposed how illicit liquor brewed in the area is killing youth with recent case of four deaths.

Mututho added that while conducting raids, police also need to engage county public health officers saying that such officers should take samples of the brews in question and conduct tests at the government chemist so that more serious charges can be preferred upon culprits.

Mututho further indicated that at the moment, they are targeting flouters of the law in Central Kenya before embarking on raids within Kiambu county and other areas.

He added that it is the high time that those involved in the trade sought for other means of survival other than selling illicit brews and that his officers will remain vigilant in order to crack the whip on those selling alcohol to the underage.
