Mvurya warns Raila, Joho ahead of ODM rallies in Kwale

Kwale Governor Salim Mvurya has warned the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) leadership against disrespecting him ahead of their rallies in the county later this week.

The rallies will be led by ODM party leader Raila Odinga and Deputy Party Leader Hassan Joho respectively in a move seen to be geared towards solidifying the party’s popularity after Mvurya defected to the newly formed Jubilee Party (JP).

Mvurya said he would not tolerate people coming to his backyard without a clear agenda to disrespect him because he ditched ODM.

Referring to Joho, Mvurya said, “I have not gone to hold rallies in Tononoka or Mvita, why should somebody come here on party basis to demean us?”

After his defection several quarters in the party vowed to ensure that he would not be reelected, with governor Joho said to be one of those preparing to set camp in Kwale and campaign against Mvurya.

“Those who vowed to remove me from the seat are not serious, how can they remove me and it is the residents who elected me?” he posed.

During the ODM 10 at 10 celebrations at Mama Ngina Drive in Mombasa, Joho referred to those who defected as being bought by envelops, saying he has his own envelop, remarks Mvurya sought reply saying he is want not bought.

“They said they are rich, we are not rich but we have God and we have wisdom that no one can remove from our heads” he said.

Mvurya was speaking at Kilole in Kinondo Ward during a meeting with the residents over mining issues that have left the residents in the area worried.

According to reports, the county government had issued Base Titanium with a license to extend its mining activities in the area, claims the governor refuted.

Mvurya said he is not worried about the coming rallies meant to ‘finish’ him saying he stands firm with the people.

“This week people have put their heads up that they are coming to Kwale to finish me, they cannot finish me because I was elected by people who expect me to serve them,” he said.

He said that county had a duly elected governor and it does not need another county governor to come and give the people another governor.

Mvurya was accompanied by his deputy Fatuma Achani, who said most of land injustices in Kwale happened under the leadership of the former prime minister and Lands minister during the grand coalition government.

She said they moved from ODM because of the wrangles that were being witnessed in the party.
