Mwende to receive Sh25,000 per month in upkeep

Jacklyne Mwende, the woman whose hands were chopped off by her husband for allegedly not being able to conceive, on Wednesday received support from a group of women leaders at her village in Kathama, Machakos County.

Taita Taveta MP Joyce Lay, Makueni Women representative Rose Museu, Machakos First Lady, among other women leaders condemned the act with FIDA chairperson Josephine Mung’are promising to take up the case to ensure that justice is served.

Women representative Rose Museu also called on the Director of Public Prosecution Keriako Tobiko to ensure the case is taken seriously, adding that  the culprit should not be released on bond or cash bail as he can be a threat to Mwende’s family.

The women leaders also promised to pay for all of Jacqueline’s medical expenses in addition to giving her a monthly upkeep of USD250, which is about Sh25,000 .

The leaders who donated Sh100,000 to help Mwende, now want the government to set up rescue centers for women that are faced with such ordeals.

Jacqueline now has to grapple with the challenges that have come with her husband chopping off her hands, her story a depiction of the domestic violence that many others might be going through but in silence.
