My people will not pay tax, Suna West MP tells county govt

Suna West Member of Parliament Hon. Obiro Ndiege has issued a one-week ultimatum to the county government of Migori to complete the construction of the Migori Town Modern Market.

Speaking to Royal Media Services’ Radio Ramogi, Hon. Ndiege threatened to call on all traders operating in Migori Town to stop paying taxes if the county government fails to complete the construction of the modern market in a week’s time.

Ndienge contended that the county government should not expect tax from the people if they cannot give better services or create an enabling environment for business activities.

Traders operating in Migori Town have been forced to endure the unfavourable weather conditions in the open-air market as the county has delayed the completion of the modern trading centre.

For more than six months, traders from Kuria Wests and East Sub counties have not been paying taxes to the county government of Migori, claiming that they are not getting better services from the county government.

The Chief Officer in the Ministry of Trade, Tourism and Cooperative Development in the county Mr. Donald Jaleny however intimated that the market project has stalled for lack of funds.

Jaleny however added that they were expecting some funds in near future to enable complete the project.
