Mzee Turere who was locked in house for six years after accident finally rescued

Police officers in Narok rescued an elderly man who has been locked up inside a house since 2014.

Reports indicate that Mzee Emmanuel ole Turere was involved in an accident and then locked up after he lost the ability to walk.

“Tumeweza kumkamata nduguye mzee huyo na kijana wake ambao wanasemekana ndio wamekuwa wakihusika katika kumfungia asipate matibabu kwa lengo la wao kuridhi mali yake,” said Narok North police boss Fredrick Shiundu.

For 6 years, Mzee Turere has been locked inside the house in Olorroito village with no access to medical care.

It is alleged that the brother Patrick Saningo and son Gideon Olonana are the ones who locked him up with the intention of inheriting his land.

Police said the mzee who was hit by a vehicle was also prevented from seeing his daughter Virginia Silole who had sought to get him medical attention after her mother passed on.

Virginia is the only daughter of Mzee Turere.

He is currently receiving treatment at the Narok County Referral Hospital.

Nominated MP David ole Sankok later visited the Mzee at the hospital.

Earlier this year, a 46-year-old man living with severe disability was also rescued from a house he had been locked up in since 2014.

Walter Ojowi from Kotuga in Suna West Sub County became paralyzed in 2016 and had been bedridden since then.

A team from the People Living with Disability network (PWD) in Migori found him after they launched a crackdown in the county.

He told them that he has never stepped out of house since he became paralyzed.

According to him, the door was always been locked from outside and only opened by family members to deliver food.

Mr. Ojowi further intimated that his wife deserted him because of the disability.
