NACADA Bans 19 Flavours Of Shisha

According to NACADA, these flavours have contravened the Tobacco Control Act 2007 section 21 (5), section 23 (1) LOK and the provisions of Section 5 of the food, Drugs and chemical substances Act cap 254.

Shisha smokers pass vapor or smoke through a water basin, often glass-based before inhaling the smoke through the mouth using a waterpipe.

People have now formulated different spices for the original shisha brand and add bhang, heroine and even cocaine.

Laboratory analysis by NACADA indicated that formulated shisha had contents of tetrahydro cannabinoids (a class of diverse chemical compounds that act on cells that repress neurotransmitter release in the brain).

Among the flavours banned include:

Al Fakher two apples with mint flavor
Al Fakher vanilla flavor
Al Fakher two apples flavor
Al Fakher orange with mint flavor
Al Fakher orange-flavor-positivefor morphineand diacetymorphine (Heroine)
Al Fakher formulated kuberwith also positive traces of morphine
Al Fakher formulated Shisha
Nakhala molasses tobacco apple flavour
String formulated shisha cocktail
Medium formulated shisha cocktail
Mild formulated shisha
Al Fakher packet, mint flavor
Al Fakher energy drink flavorchocolate with mint flavor
Al Fakher grape flavor
Gutkha satchet powder

A Statement by Director, Public health, Kepha Ombacho read, “In interest of safeguarding the public health of the potential users, all this products should be removed from the market and any person or persons found offering the same should be prosecuted. Similarly tobacco product that is labelled with “flavour” in a manner to deceive should not be allowed.”

Addressing the press in his office today, Thursday NACADA Chairman John Mututho said that the process of testing other shisha and Kuber flavours is still on going and the list of banned substances may increase with time.
