Naftali Kinuthia, suspect in Ivy Wangeci murder detained for 14 days

Naftali Kinuthia, the suspect in the murder of Moi University student Ivy Wangeci, has been detained for 14 days pending completion of investigations.

Kinuthia, 28, was arraigned in an Eldoret court on Monday where the prosecution requested for more time to detain him as they conclude investigations.

The court directed that the suspect be detained at Nauberi Police Station in Eldoret and be allowed medical attention at the Moi Teaching and Referral Hospital during the period he will be in custody.

The suspect is nursing serious injuries sustained from an attack by a mob that roughed him up after he hacked Ivy Wangeci with an axe last Tuesday outside the Moi Teaching and Referral Hospital in a case of unrequited love.

The case will be mentioned on April 30, 2019.

In his testimony to the Eldoret East DCI boss, Ali Kingi, Kinuthia claimed he had invested money and emotions in the woman, but his love and financial kindness wasn’t reciprocated as per his expectations.

Meanwhile, Wangeci is set to be laid to rest on Thursday this week at the family’s rural home in Mahiga, Nyeri County.
