Nairobi bans poultry import from Kampala over bird flu
The government has banned importation of poultry products from Uganda following an outbreak of bird flu in the neighboring country.
According to Agriculture Cabinet Secretary, Willy Bett, the government has also established a task force to ensure proper surveillance on smuggling routes on Kenyans borders with Uganda, especially at the Busia border.
Bett adds that National Treasury, Kenya Revenue Authority and Ministries of Education and Interior have been directed to be on high alert even as no case of the virus has been reported in the country.
The CS has, however, appealed to Kenyans to be alert and immediately report any case of sickness among the country’s 32 million poultry, with surveillance targeting wild birds on land and in water.
