Nairobi boss off the hook after court throws out case

Nairobi County government Chief of Staff, George Wainaina, has been let off the hook after the High Court quashed criminal proceedings facing him.

Justice Joseph Onguto ruled that charges against Wainaina were an abuse of the court process and criminal justice system and barred Chief Magistrate’s court from continuing with the trial.

Judge Onguto agreed with submissions made by the Nairobi Chief of Staff that the role of Nairobi Senator Mike Sonko in the investigation leading to his arrest was more than that of a complainant.

Wainaina was charged with attempting to bribe Sonko with Ksh 1 million but he challenged his prosecution, arguing when EACC proposed his trial it had no commissioners or chairperson in office.
