Nairobi businesswoman conned Ksh.48M

Two men were on Monday arraigned in court for allegedly defrauding a Nairobi businesswoman Ksh.48.5 million through a fake tender agreement.

The suspects, David Kahi Ambuku alias Peter Bwonya Okwaro and Paul Miller Owiti alias Miller Nyami, are said to have forged tender documents from the Ministry of Transport for the supply of building material.

According to court documents, the incident occurred between January 18 and February 28 this year at the Ministry of Transport.

The two, who pretended to be staffers from the Transport Ministry, are alleged to have presented a fake tender agreement to the directors of Kinlix Limited, a company that supplies building materials.

The fake documents bore forged signatures of the principal secretaries in State Departments for Maritime and Shipping Affairs as well as Transport.

The said company had been asked to supply oil-coated angling tail lines and titanium-coated bearing pillow blocks.

Appearing before Nairobi Chief Magistrate Francis Andayi, Okwaro and Nyami denied the charges and were released on a Ksh.3 million cash bail or Ksh.4 million bond.

The case will be mentioned on March 26, 2018.
