Nairobi conductor shot dead by drunk cop

A matatu conductor was on Sunday shot dead by an Administration Police officer at Waithaka village in Dagoretti South, Nairobi.

The deceased, David Kariuki, was going about his normal business of picking up and dropping passengers when the incident occurred.

According to eyewitnesses, the police officer had been on a drinking spree with many placing him at a local pub earlier in the day.

“It is unacceptable for a police officer to be armed while he is under the influence of alcohol.” Patrick Kariuki, the father of the deceased said.

After police officers from Kabete Police Station arrived at the scene, the accused was taken into custody but no formal charges have been pressed against him.

Area OCPD Rashid Mohammed confirmed that investigations were underway.

“It is too early to press charges, kindly give us an opportunity to investigate the matter to its logical conclusion.” Rashid added

The incident caused uproar in the area with residents of Dagoretti demanding justice for the family of the deceased.
