Nairobi County Assembly Speaker Elachi suspended
- Nairobi County Assembly Speaker Beatrice Elachi and assembly clerk Jacob Ngwele have today been suspended from the Nairobi county assembly service board.
- Ms Elachi told the media on Monday evening that her fallout with the City Hall bosses started when she questioned an inflated value of the Speaker’s residence in Nairobi’s Karen Estate with over Sh30 million.
Nairobi County Assembly Speaker Beatrice Elachi has been suspended.
The County Assembly Board suspended her alongside the Clerk Jacob Ngwele for allegedly inflating the cost of the Speaker’s residential home.
While the home situated in Karen was valued at Ksh.94million, the two are accused of colluding and hiking it to Ksh.145million.
In her defense, Ms Elachi told the media on Monday evening that she is the one who questioned the inflated value of the home.
According to her, this is what prompted her fallout with the City Hall bosses.
However, Waithaka Ward MCA Anthony Kiragu moved a motion to impeach the Speaker on grounds that she was misusing her office.
He also cited conflict of interest and undermining of the County Assembly Board as other reasons behind the move.
Kiragu is expected to give a notice of the impeachment motion on Tuesday afternoon.
Majority Leader Abdi Guyo (Matopeni MCA) told Citizen Digital that Nairobi County Assembly Deputy Clerk will assume Ngwele’s duties.
