Nairobi County Govt to auction Eastleigh properties

Four prime properties in Nairobi’s Eastleigh Estate have been marked for clamping due to failure in paying rates.

While briefing the rates steering committee under the office of the CECM, Finance and Economic Planning Minister Mr Gregory Mwakanongo said that the clampdown operation would start at 10am at the properties.

Mwakanongo added that this would be the beginning of a legal process to auction the properties to recover the outstanding rate.

“The process of auctioning off 19 properties that have been unable to pay rates despite being clamped is almost complete and these will be auctioned in the next few weeks,” said Mr Mwakanongo

This, Mwakanongo says, should serve as a warning to defaulters that this time round the county is serious and defaulters will definitely face the music.

Mwakanongo added that it was also a departure from earlier operations that ended without concrete action being taken against defaulters as provided in the Rating Act.
