Nairobi gang surrenders as police issue shoot-to-kill order

Over 60 members of a gang commonly known as team Gaza terrorizing residents of Njiru, Ruai and Mwiki area have surrendered themselves to the police following an amnesty offered by the Interior Ministry.

But even as this happened area OCPD Ali Nuno has given a shoot to kill order to other gang members who will be found with weapons in the area.

When the word gang is mentioned, one would be forgiven to expect staunch mean looking men coming out, but this was not the case here, the gang comprises of boys as young as 15 years old and women and young girls are involved too.

Among the crowd is a 70 year old grandmother. Hers is a case of answered prayers as her three grandchildren have been deeply involved in the gang.

The three young men (grandchildren) opted to drop out of school and join the gang a move the granny says has taken a toll on her.

But even as the gang surrendered, Kayole OCPD Ali Nuno cautioned them that this does not mean the government eye has now shifted from them.

Nuno has put on notice all those still engaging in crime within the area that their days are numbered and has instructed all the OCS within the area police stations to shoot to kill whoever is found terrorizing residents with any kind of weapon.

“I’m instructing all the OCS present here, should you see any person armed and is suspected of planning robbery, shoot them on the spot. I will take the responsibility,” he said.

Are MP John Njoroge has called on the youth leaders to bring the youth who are ready to reform together for them to be enrolled in the National Youth Service (NYS).

The youth promised to surrender their weapons by the end of the week to the security officials.
