Nairobi Governor Mike Sonko faces fresh impeachment

A motion of impeachment has been tabled against Governor Mike Sonko by Kileleshwa Ward MCA Michael Ogada.

Mr. Ogada who is also the Nairobi County Assembly Minority Leader wants Sonko gone on among other grounds abuse of office and graft.

The legislator argued that Sonko has been in an out of courtrooms on various cases and is therefore unfit to hold public office.

Insiders say that the governor and his allies retreated to an impromptu meeting on Thursday afternoon to knock heads on the best way forward.

In February, President Uhuru Kenyatta met Nairobi Members of the County Assembly (MCAs) from all parties at State House, Nairobi.

Out of the 122 Nairobi MCAs, 115 were in attendance in a meeting that focused majorly on the Nairobi county takeover by the National Government.

At the same event, the president asked the MCA’s to drop the impeachment motion against Governor Sonko.

The county’s communications director, Elkana Jacob, said the MCAs agreed to drop the motion and focus on service delivery as advised.
