Nairobi Hospital drops Jubilee Insurance from list of cover providers

The Nairobi Hospital has dropped Jubilee Insurance from its list of cover providers following outstanding claims dating back to 2018.

In a letter to Jubilee Insurance Group CEO Julius Kipng’etich, the Nairobi Hospital says the listed firm is yet to pay Ksh. 357million accumulated over a three-year period.

“In the light of this, the Hospital wishes to inform you that your account will be suspended effective Thursday June 18, 2020 at 9.00am,” the letter reads.

Nairobi Hospital CEO Allan Pamba says the bills originates from the 2018 and 2019 packages including Ksh. 33million and Ksh. 47.8million respectively.

Additionally, the Jubilee owes the hospital Ksh. 96million since the beginning of 2020.

“The Ksh. 96million includes package for 2020 invoice which are still not being honored despite assurance from your end” says Dr Pamba.

As result the hospital chief executive officer has written to all its admitting consultants notifying them of the suspension of Jubilee Insurance.

“Hospitals are currently operating on constrained revenues and on-time payment by insurances for services rendered is critical,’ he adds

On Friday, Jubilee Insurance head of customer experience Dr Mary Muthee sent out a notice on the suspension to policy holders.

“Seamless medical services are however available at the rest of our expansive provider panel,” she added.

In May, Jubilee Insurance announced a 2.6 percent drop in net profit to Ksh. 4billion for its 2019 financial year report. The profit it added dropped on higher claim settlements and a lower return from its associates.

While its premiums were up 9% percent to Ksh. 29.1billion, it witnessed an increase in claims from Ksh. 15.9billion to Ksh. 19.7billion. Incomes from associated businesses declined in the period under review from Ksh. 1.3billion to Ksh. 988million.
