Nairobi man found guilty of killing wife in Buruburu estate

A Nairobi court on Thursday convicted a man was charged with the murder of his wife in Buruburu phase 5 estate in 2014.

Erastus Ngura Odhiambo, who was found guilty murder, is said to have shot and killed Linda Wanjiku Irungu on the night of December 11, 2014.

Delivering the sentence, Justice Stella Mutuku noted that while there were contradictions in the statements issued by prosecution witnesses, at least three key eye-witnesses were consistent in their testimonies, which related well with the occurrence at the scene of the shooting.

One of the eye-witnesses told the court that on the fateful night, there was a commotion in the couple’s house before a single gun shot sound was heard. It was later discovered that the deceased had sustained a gun shot on her back.

“There was a gun wound at the back, internal bleeding, and there was death,” noted the judge.

The court also found out that Mr. Ngura was at the scene during the ill-fated night.

In his defence, Mr. Ngura claimed that the bullet was fired in the air and not at the deceased.

However, the court found his defence to be irrelevant.

It is believed that the couple had a disagreement after Mrs. Wanjiku failed to show up on a date that the two had planned on that night.

The accused, who has been out on bond, was taken to prison awaiting his mitigation to the court before sentencing.
