Nairobi MCAs busted complaining about reduced bribe

By Enock Sickolia

Nairobi County Government is at the centre of another scandal yet again.

In an audio clip that recently surfaced, a man apparently identified as Utalii MCA Wilson Ochola makes reference to the legislative arm of the county and its mandate.

Sisi as Members of the County Assembly we are fighting corruption…na tulishtuka sana kupewa 1 million yenye hatujafanyia kazi….hata nikajiuliza this one million is for what (We as Members of the County Assembly we are fighting corruption….and we were shocked when we received Ksh.1million that we haven’t worked for. I wondered what the money was for),” the man is heard saying.

The legislator is captured seemingly admitting to receiving an alleged bribe and later questioning how the amount was reduced.

“After investigation we found out that this money was Ksh.10million and the money that was brought to Mombasa was Ksh.5million/…..and instead of Ksh.5million, we were given one million…….The rest of the money iko wapi……..Ikiharibika imeharibika….,” he adds.

In an apparent reference to the incident at City Hall, the MCA, who is a member of the Labor Committee claims the one million shilling ‘cake’ was shared equally so that they would doctor a report.

Sisi wote tulipata kitu….They gave one of our members one million kwa choo akatuletea…. (We were all given something….They gave one of our members one million in the toilet and he gave us),” the man continues.

The audio clip which Citizen Digital cannot authenticate, also captures the Nairobi County Assembly Minority Whip castigating the county government.

It has raised questions about what appears to be wanton corruption at City Hall.

However, on Wednesday, Nairobi Governor Mike Sonko got a reprieve after a case filed over the alleged loss of Ksh.1.7billion was dismissed.

The MCA had taken the county government to court claiming that it misappropriated the funds through irregular procurement of health services for staff.
