Nairobi police boss Benson Kibue left out of service in new shakeup

Interior Cabinet Secretary Major Gen. (Rtd.) Joseph Nkaissery has announced major changes in the country’s administration and police chain of command.

The shake-up has affected several county commanders and county commissioners. Nkaissery has named Japheth Koome as the new Nairobi County Commander replacing Benson Kibui.

Nkaissery nullified postings made four days ago by Deputy Inspector General of Police Grace Kaindi, who was on Tuesday appointed an Ambassador of Kenya by President Uhuru Kenyatta.

Kaindi had posted Tito Kilonzi to take over as Mombasa County Commander, Sharrif Abdala to Elgeyo Marakwet, Joseph Limo to Kisumu and Nelson Njiti to Kajiado among others, postings that were overturned in the changes made by Nkaissery.

The shakeup affects all the 47 counties apart from Uasin Gishu, Bungoma, Kwale and Mombasa.

Benson Kibui, who was serving as the Nairobi County Commander, and who also served as a traffic commandant and presidential escort commander, has been left out in the cold as Japheth Koome took his place.

Godfrey Mwaura is the new Nairobi County Commissioner, replacing Shadrack Mwadime.

Nkaissery said the security changes are meant to help with the security challenges facing the country.

In Central Kenya, Bernard Kinyua will serve as the new Kirinyaga County Commissioner, Fredrick Shisia, who was the Wajir County Commissioner is now the Nyandarua County Commissioner, Alex Nkoyo Letoya, who was serving as Mandera’s County Commissioner, has been moved to Kiambu County.

Others who have been affected in the shakeup are Amos Gathecha, former Nakuru County Commissioner, who has been replaced by Joshua Nkatha, former Narok County Commissioner Kassim Farrah moves to Homa Bay with his position taken up by Magu Mutindika.

The changes, according to Nkaissery, are geared towards increasing the momentum in combating terror, ending cattle rustling and the latest menace in town: the scourge of illicit alcohol.
