Nairobi roads closed on Saturday for Mater Heart Run

A number of roads have been closed on  Saturday for the Mater Heart Run.

The exercise that kicked off at 7am is taking place simultaneously in 10 cities including Nairobi, Mombasa, Machakos and Kisumu.

“…to continually raise money for purpose of funding financially disadvantaged children in desperate need of cardiac surgeries,” a statement on the Mater Kenya website reads.

In Nairobi, roads closed for this year’s Mater Heart Run are as follows:

  • Kenyatta Avenue
  • Valley Road
  • Mbagathi Way
  • Lang’ata Road
  • Aerodrome Road
  • Uhuru Highway
  • Parliament Road
  • City Hall Way

The Mater Heart Run program identifies children with heart ailments, especially those from poor socio-economic background who require assistance.

Over 3000 heart procedures in the management of Rheumatic fever have been performed since the program’s inception in 1995.

According to Mater Hospital, the programme has grown from 20 to 200 heart surgeries every year.
