Nairobi To Get New Waste Recycling Plant

The project is to be constructed by a German company which has proposed to undertake the project.

The project would be funded to the tune of 80M Euros.

The funds will go towards laying down the necessary infrastructure to support exploration and generation of geothermal power that will contribute an additional 200 megawatts to the national grid.

This will further support the Government’s initiative of producing 5,000 megawatts to the national grid.

President Uhuru Kenyatta who met with the German investors welcomed the new project for Nairobi.

Speaking at State House after a meeting with them, President Kenyatta said his Government encourages the private sector to participate in boosting the country’s electricity generation.

President Kenyatta also appreciated the German investor for showing confidence in the country’s policies and programmes and urged more investors to emulate them.

Kenyatta further urged government officials to avoid unnecessary bureaucracy to ensure the government’s agenda of wooing investors is not bogged down by procedures.

Present during the meeting were Cabinet Secretaries Charity Ngilu, Davis Chirchir and Foreign Secretary ambassador Amina Mohammed.

Frank Masuhr also disclosed that the company intends to set up a 400 million dollar plant at Dandora dumpsite which will create 1,000 jobs directly and indirectly.

He added that the project will absorb 2000 tonnes of waste daily which would in turn be converted into 70 megawatts of power to the national grid.

Lands Minister Charity Ngilu promised to accelerate issuance of the title deed to the Dandora project investors to commence work.

Nairobi Governor Dr. Evans Kidero wo was present said that his government supports the project and has fast-tracked licensing to ensure it takes off without further delay.
