Nairobi University lecturer found with her sons decomposing body in South B home

Police on Thursday arrested a University of Nairobi lecturer after the decomposing body of her son was discovered at their house in Nairobi’s South B estate.

According to police, Hannah Hotannah Khahugani was living together with her dead son before the flat caretaker alerted them of a foul smell emanating from her house.

In a routine round of rent collection from tenants of Kifaru Apartments in South B area of Nairobi, the caretaker, Steven Mwangi, knocked on the woman’s door.

“Niligonga mlango hakufungua, na nikampigia nikaskia simu ikilia kwa sitting room. Wakati nilichungulia nikaona mtu amelala chini kwa carpet na kulikuwa na harufu kali na inzi,” said Mwangi.

The caretaker alerted the police thinking that both Hannah Khaugani and the son Emmanuel Solomon Inyama were dead.

“Tulipofungua tukapata mwili wa mtoto kwa sitting room na mama ameketi kwa floor kwa kitchen akisema oh my god,” he added.

According to police preliminary investigations, the decomposing body might have been in the house for more than four days.

The family of the single mother of one who has lived in the said apartment for four years suspect that the University of Nairobi lecturer had joined a cult and spent days praying for her son to resurrect instead of reporting his death.

The caretaker reported of a sudden change of character of the otherwise bubbly tenant.

“Alikuwa mtu wa kusalimia watu na kuishi vizuri na watu na hata huyo mtoto wake alikuwa anachezanga hapa na baiskeli,” he added.

Khahugani, who lectures at the nursing school at the University of Nairobi, is a decorated scholar who has worked with several institutions including Kenyatta University and the Nairobi Hospital.
