Nairobi West Hospital now conducting testing for Covid-19

Nairobi West Hospital is now conducting testing for the novel coronavirus following the launch of an isolation and testing unit at the facility.

According to the hospital’s Chief Medical Director Prof. Andrew K. Gachii, Nairobi residents who wish to take a Covid-19 test can now do so at the hospital.

Prof. Gachii says the Level-5 facility can test 40 persons daily at a cost of Ksh.Ksh.7,700 per test with the results being availed within 24 hours.

Each and every person arriving at the hospital is screened before entering the facility during which he/she will first  undergo a thermal temperature check.

“While entering main facility patient need to wash hands and then pass through automated sanitization path way besides doing complete sanitization. This path way is also fitted with digital camera once again taking thermal temperature,” said the Chief Medical Director.

Those who are clear from screening can enter the hospital building but those who show some symptoms will visit fever clinic where a doctor will examine the patient and decide about way forward.

“If a patient has any symptoms, he goes to IDU for Covid-19 testing or he/she enters the main hospital,” said Prof. Gachii during the launch of the isolation unit.

There are 10 staff — seven medical staff and three non-medical staff including a guard — working at the isolation and testing facility at Nairobi West Hospital.
