Naitore : Naivasha killings and sexual abuse
“It is extremely alarming that in less than two weeks, two girls who have been abducted, sexually abused and murdered in Naivasha. We are calling on the Police Inspector to act quickly to thoroughly investigate these cases, bring the perpetrators to justice, and effectively address the systemic problem of sexual violence against girls in the area. This is the most extreme demonstration of violence against women and girls, and is part of the unfortunate reality that sexual violence happens every day and is often not reported on.
It is deplorable that despite Kenya having very progressive laws in place that seek to protect and promote the rights of girls; these rights have been horrifically violated. We ask the Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions to ensure the prompt prosecution of the perpetrators in these cases so that justice is served on behalf of the victims and their families, and a clear message is sent that sexual violence will not be tolerated.”
