Naivasha ‘meat-wrappers’ paralyze operations at slaughterhouse

Operations at the Naivasha Slaughterhouse were paralyzed for the better part of the day after the operators protested a move by the Nakuru County Assembly to ban wrapping of meat using newspapers.

Addressing the press, the group said the Members of County Assembly had fallen short of agenda to help residents and were now passing laws without consultation.

According to their chairman, Peter Njogu, they were surprised that petty issues could be discussed and passed by an Assembly.

Njogu said wrapping of meat is done in a healthy manner and no one has ever complained that it was unhygienic.

“When wrapping meat we use two nylon paper bags and we don’t know why the MCAs decided to pass such  an incoherent law,” he said.

He accused the Ward Representatives of being idle saying that they were focusing on petty issues other than debating matters of county importance.

Njogu said they were keenly following the latest move warning that those who passed the motion would be taught a lesson come August 8.

His sentiments were echoed by another leader, Joseph Ng’ang’a, who said it was a sad situation in the county that such matters would be debated.

Ng’ang’a called on Governor Kinuthia Mbugua not to assent to the law to allow for its revision.
