Nakumatt employees spend nights at closed branch over unpaid salaries

Nakumatt employees in Eldoret have in the last seven days spent their nights inside the supermarket demanding for their salaries.

Speaking to Citizen Digital, the workers said that the management had not paid them their salaries for the past six months and they can no longer fend for their families.

The workers have vowed not to leave the supermarket until they get paid despite harsh conditions inside the building that has no water, food and electricity.

In Mombasa, operations in the Nakumatt at Nyali were on Friday paralyzed after more than 400 workers downed their tools demanding their six months’ salary arrears.

The irate employees staged a demonstration along the busy Nyali road before proceeding to County Treasury Headquarters to protest the management’s failure to hold their end of the bargain.

According to Berry Kingi and Samy Kang’iri, employees of Nakumatt, most of the workers have already been kicked out of their houses for failing to pay rent and they can no longer access medical scheme services.
