Nakuru boda boda operators protest police harassment

More than 200 boda boda operators from Bahati in Nakuru County on Tuesday held a peaceful demonstration protesting what they termed as harassment by police officers from Bahati Police Station.

The operators started the protest from an area known as section 58 and headed to the county commanders office before seeking audience with County Commissioner Joshua Nkanatha.

They complained that police officers from Bahati have been demanding bribes from them after insisting that they are not supposed to operate past 9am.

While raising concern that most of them could be driven out of business, the operators said that on several occasions officers on night patrol have hit some of them with their vehicles injuring them, and then turning around to frame them for the accidents.

The operators said area MP Kimani Ngunjiri has raised the issue on severally but action was yet to be taken.

In order to have peace while operating their businesses, the riders called for transfer of all officers from the station.

On his part, Nkanatha said their complains have been taken with seriousness, adding that action will be taken by following the official procedure.
