Nakuru County gets Sh60m ambulances

The Nakuru County Government has acquired seven ambulances at a cost of Sh60 million that will be distributed to major hospitals across 11 sub-counties in order to improve healthcare in the region.

The ambulances are expected to help ease the movement of patients seeking emergency treatment from far-flung villages in the vast county.

According to Governor Kinuthia wa Mbugua, who was speaking while on a tour of Naivasha sub County Hospital, the move was part of his government’s agenda to ensure healthcare is affordable for all.

“We can now see the results of better healthcare for all, these ambulances will be free for all the residents, no one will be required to pay,” he said.

He also promised that he would lobby for funds in order to improve the infrastructure of Naivasha’s sub County Referral Hospital and to expand the hospital’s mortuary.

“I will ask the MCAs to help pass the coming budget so that we can have an expanded facility as the current one has the capacity to accommodate only 12 bodies,” he stated.

In the past few years, county governments have been purchasing ambulances in order to help improve service delivery in their respective counties.

Early last year Marsabit County under its Governor Ukur Yatani flagged off ten ambulances and six other vehicles for officers worth Sh72 million that were intended to improve the lives of residents.
