Nakuru County to bury 251 unclaimed bodies

The County Government of Nakuru has been given the go-ahead by the court to bury 251 unclaimed bodies in Gilgil and Nakuru south cemetery this week.

County public health officer, Samuel King’ori, said that 200 bodies are infants and 35 are adults and from Nakuru Town while 16 bodies are from Naivasha Town.

He said that some of the bodies have been lying at various mortuaries for over seven months waiting for relatives to identify them.

“Due to the full capacity of the other cemeteries, unclaimed bodies in Naivasha mortuaries will be buried at Gilgilgil cemetery while those in Nakuru mortuaries will be buried at the south cemetery”, he added

He also noted that the county loses over 20 million annually due to uncollected bodies and urged residents to collect the bodies of their relatives from various mortuaries for burial.

According to the law, a notice of 21 days is given to relatives to pick uncollected bodies before the county organizes a mass burial.
