Nakuru County to pay hospital water bill

Nakuru County to pay hospital water bill

The County Government of Nakuru has moved in to settle a Ksh 9 million water bill owed to Naivasha Water, Sanitation and Sewerage Company (NAIVAWASS) by the Naivasha Referral Hospital.

Governor Kinuthia Mbugua said that the county government will settle the bill after the water company threatened to cut off water supply and block the sewer system of the health facility over the pending bills.

“It’s a shame that we have to go to the extent of closing down the hospital over bills while it is our responsibility as the county government to settle the same. We will pay the bills in four phases in this financial year,” said Governor Mbugua.

Mbugua at the same time lashed out at government institutions in the county saying they had neglected their duty of paying monthly bills to various service providers.

He took issue with the Naivasha GK Prison, whose sewer line was blocked by the water company, for failing to settle Ksh 8 million bills.

“The company has blocked the sewer line because this is the only way to compel the prisons to pay us.”

Mbugua was speaking when he officiated the Fifth Annual General Meeting for the water company at a Naivasha Hotel.
