Nakuru demos over illegal hiring called off

The second round of demonstrations scheduled for Wednesday by Nakuru residents to pressure Governor Kinuthia Mbugua to sack some two senior County Government officials and 180 low cadre workers over what the electorate has termed as illegal hiring have been called off following a court order.

Speaking to Citizen Digital Wednesday afternoon, the chairman of Nakuru Street Traders and Hawkers Association- Nastha Simon Sangale ole Nasieku, who organized the first demonstration last week said that the planned demos were called off after the court stopped the county population from discussing the matter which is already before it or picketing over the same.

“Lawyer Wilfred Konosi had written to me and businessman Hezron Manyara informing us of a court order that stopped anyone from discussing, demonstrating, or picketing over a matter that is under judicial consideration and, therefore, prohibited from public discussion elsewhere,” said Sangale.

The letter further stated that any form of picketing will amount to contempt of a court order issued by the Nakuru High Court on July 11th, 2016.

The order gave directions for the expeditious hearing and determination of a petition filed by Shadrack Kosgey Cherogoe and Abraham Birundu Nyangoto as interested parties in a suit where Governor Kinuthia Mbugua was restrained from receiving and or acting on any memorandum containing recommendations for the removal from office of the interested parties there in the ad hoc committee reported dated June 29th, 2016.
