Nakuru MCAs in incitement case released by police

Two Nakuru County Assembly members who were arrested for inciting youths to violence have been released on a bond of KSh.100,000.

The court ruled that Mr. Peter Njoroge (Biashara ward) and Mr. Wilbur Onyango (Kivumbini) should appear before the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) offices for 7 consecutive days.

Principal magistrate Joe Omido gave the same order for seven other suspects linked to the case.

This follows a consent order between the State and the accused’s lawyers to have them freed on personal bond before they are allowed to plead to the charges.

Police had sought to have the pleas deferred so that they could conclude investigations.

The MCAs were arrested on Tuesday evening and spent the night at the Bahati Police Station after they failed to secure bail for their release.

Mr Njoroge (Jubilee) and Mr Onyango (Orange Democratic Movement) are accused of inciting youths to violence at Ampiva farm.

According to police, the youths are suspected to be behind circulation of leaflets with hate messages within Subukia, Bahati and Solai trading centre.

Nakuru North OCPD Edward Wafula who led the arrest said police acted on a tip-off from members of the public who disarmed the youths who had machetes on them.
