Nakuru residents risk waterborne diseases as rains begin

Residents of Kwa Rhonda Estate in Nakuru risk contracting waterborne diseases following heavy down pour that began Thursday, November 10 evening leading to flash floods.

According to the residents, Kwa Rhonda Estate has experienced perennial floods with run off waters from other estates such as London and Gioto, which are highly dirty, draining down to its residential houses.

Mary Wanjiru, a resident of Mwariki, said she was preparing dinner for her children when the rain started. It did not take long before the flash floods swept through her house sweeping her belongings.

Speaking to Citizen Digital, Wanjiru said she fears for her health and that of her children since during the floods, the run off water is often a mixture of rainwater and sewage wastes.

Additionally, she said there are occasions when their piped water shows traces of sewerage leakages.
