Nakuru residents to demonstrate over water shortage

Residents of Nakuru are threatening to stage demonstrations to Governor Kinuthia Mbugua’s office over what they term as ‘poor management of water points’ following the prolonged shortage in the county.

They are faulting the Nakuru Water and Sanitation Company (NAWASCO) for failing to evenly distribute water in the estates, forcing them to travel for long distances to fetch the precious commodity.

“NAWASCO is dead asleep and this water shortage problem is now taking toll on us,” lamented one of the residents.

“We are used to getting water in our taps at least three days a week, now we are getting it for one or two days only.”

In Kaptembwa estate, the residents argue that the businesspeople have been favoured by the county government while the rest continue suffering from the ongoing drought that has hit most parts of the country.

According to the residents, the governor has failed in his mandate to protect them from the shortage and extortion by a few people running the NAWASCO.
