Nakuru Roads CEC Lucy Kariuki impeached
Nakuru Members of County Assembly have impeached the County Executive Committee (CEC) member for Roads Lucy Kariuki over alleged abuse of office.
A motion for her impeachment was tabled in the assembly on Tuesday with a majority of 49 out of 71 MCAs voting in support of her removal.
This came just a day after Governor Lee Kinyanjui sought to transfer her to the department of Youth and Gender in a Cabinet reshuffle announced on Monday.
The motion had been introduced last week on Thursday but was postponed after chaos erupted in the Assembly following a disagreement on the method of voting.
The MCAs accuse Ms. Kariuki of mismanaging the county’s Boresha Barabara initiative — the Governor’s flagship project aimed at improving dilapidated infrastructure in 55 wards.
Ms Kariuki, a former Kenya Pipeline Engineer, was accused of having a bad working relationship with officers in her department, failing to honour invitations by assembly committees, and interfering with procurement processes.
The MCAs also accused, Ms Kariuki, a former Kenya Pipeline Engineer, of disrespecting the MCAs.
She, however, denies all the accusations.
