Nakuru Town East MP Faces Assault Charges

OCPD Muinde Kioko was under pressure from local leaders including Nakuru Governor Kinuthia Mbugua to take action against David Gikania after he was accused of assaulting county inspectorate officers.

Kioko has confirmed that he has written to the DPP to give directions on the next course of action against the MP.

Governor Kinuthia had accused Kioko of negligence and demanded the immediate arrest of Gikaria for the attack on inspectorate officers and damage of county vehicle.

Kioko indicated that, the law had to take its course and the police could not have acted without following due procedure.

He added that police have recorded statements of 6 inspectorate officers, the MP and his witnesses, two administration police officers who were on the ground, police officers who were at the station and 6 independent witnesses.

Accompanied by suspected goons, Gikaria reportedly attacked 28 county enforcement officers at 11pm on April 8, when they were demolishing illegal structures near Valley Hospital, injuring three of them.

Inspector George Ng’ang’a is said to have sustained head injuries while Sergeant Margaret Atieno fractured his left hand after she was supposedly hit by the MP with a club.
