Nandi contractors storm public works offices

Contractors based in Nandi County on Friday, October 14 stormed the regional Public Works Office to protest the planned commencement of road works in Kapsabet by the Kenya Urban Roads Authority (KURA).

According to the Nandi County Contractors’ Association Secretary, Isaac Sang, KURA ‘has never been transparent in Nandi County because it overlooks the competitive tendering process.’

He added that they now want all stakeholders involved in the Kapsabet site visit and contractors from the region considered for jobs saying that they meet the requirements.

Sang also accused KURA officials of engaging in corruption in awarding tenders.

He said that the roads sites visit is being done just as a formality but tenders have already been awarded to specific contractors.

North Rift Regional Manager Engineer, Edwin Limo, however, dismissed the allegations saying that the tendering process has always been free and fair.

Limo further urged the contractors to apply for tenders from other parts of the country adding that the tenders.
