Nandi County sacks 1,200 employees including health workers

The County Government of Nandi has sacked 1,200 members of staff over various reasons including incompetence, gross misconduct and violation of the recruitment procedures during their employment.

In a memo signed by Nandi County Secretary, Francis Ominde, the county boss delegated authority to the county human resource management officer, Chief of Staff, all Chief Officers, and the Clerk of the County Assembly to revoke appointments of 1,200 workers in the county.

The affected persons include health workers, ECDE teachers, drivers, protocol officers, communication officers and revenue officers.

The move has angered a section of leaders who have threatened legal action if the decision by the county government is not rescinded.

“It is very sad that someone wakes up one morning and decides to sack 1,200 workers without following the due procedure,” said an arguably angry Nandi County Jubilee senatorial nominee, Samson Cherargei, at the Nandi County headquarters.

According to Mr Cherargei, the letter of communication between the County Secretary and the County Public Service Board addressed issues of employees planning to change their payroll.

He added that, no satisfactory explanation has been given on the same by the Office of the Governor or the County Public Service Board.

The Senatorial hopeful, Cherargai, expressed his disappointment with the county officers terming their move as illegal.
