Nandi county threatens to sack striking medics

Nandi County doctors risk being sacked after Governor Cleophas Lagat announced that he will employ new medics if the striking ones fail to report to work by Monday, March 13.

Speaking at Kapsabet showground, Mr Lagat gave the doctors a four-day ultimatum to return to work or face the sack.

He said that residents have suffered enough and the county government cannot continue sitting down as the patients suffer.

The doctors’ strike has lasted over three months with a deal reached less than a week ago.

According to Lagat, doctors should drop their hardliner stance and be considerate to the cry of the people who now depend on private facilities to get medical attention.

Lagat further accused the doctors of forgetting their call to help the sick adding that the life of a human being is expensive than a salary increment.

He said that women and children are in dire need of medical services and since the start of the doctors’ strike last year, no single patient has been treated by a doctor across the 196 health facilities in Nandi County.
