Nandi County To Honor Its Heroes

Nandi County governor, Dr. Cleophas Lagat says that the County is home to many heroes and heroines who had made the county proud in different fields.

The County government is set to build a Hall Of Fame where the names of all Nandi past, present and future heroes’ and heroines’ names will be imprinted in recognition of their work.

The county has already been honored and recognized nationally where 5 heroes have been gazetted.

The gazetted Nandi heroes include the great Nandi leader Koitalel arap Samoei who was beheaded by the colonial white settlers 1905, Jean-Marie Seroney, Jelagat Mutai, Bishop Alexander Muge and Barserian arap Manyei.

Barserian arap Manyei is Koitalel’s son and is said to be the longest serving political detainee detained by colonialists.

Bishop Alexander Kipsang Muge is remembered by many Kenyans for his efforts in championing for democracy, fight against corruption, ethnicity and land grabbing.

He was a resilient speaker who agitated for  multi-party democracy and discouraged nepotism.

The clergyman was born in 1948 in Nandi County and became the first bishop of Eldoret Diocese.

He joined a bandwagon of clerics who were critical of the excesses in government and as a result, became a marked man.

Residents of Kipng'oror where Bishop Muge hailed from have been requested to donate land so that a resource centre is built in his honor.
