Nandi County to decide Jubilee gubernatorial aspirant today

It appears that back in 2013, politicians had not known the exact ‘muscle’ of the governor’s position but five years down the line, and literally everyone is salivating for the counties’ top-most job.

Nandi County gubernatorial race has attracted bigwigs and considering that the region has been ranked among the Jubilee Party strongholds, the party’s ticket is the most sought-after today.

The Jubilee Party was forced to postpone the Nandi County nominations that were initially to take place on Friday, April 21st after it emerged that there was a shortage of ballot papers.

“We found that the kits issued to some stations had half the number of ballot papers required; such incidences were reported across numerous polling centers in the county,” Nandi County Returning Officer, Solomon Mangira, who was explaining to Citizen Digital why the process was postponed said.

Incumbent Governor Dr Cleophas Lagat, current Senator Stephen Sang, former Tindiret and Industrialization Minister Henry Kosgei and ex-agriculture CS Felix Koskei are among the nine aspirants who will battle it out to clinch the Jubilee Party ticket.

In a list dominated by male aspirants, others in the race include Ole Lessos Principal Alphonse Kirwa Misoi, Uasin Gishu County Executive in-charge of ICT Barnabas Kipchumba Sang, Baringo Director of Finance Silas Kipruto, and former manager at Eastern Produce Company Peter Kipkemboi Maiyo with University of Eldoret Lecturer Dr Yulita Chebotip Mitei being the only female aspirant.

However, for political debutants, the Nandi County Senatorial seat appears to be their destiny.

The seat has attracted a massive 15 aspirants who will know their fate during the course of the day.
