Nandi Governor suspends senior health officers

Nandi Governor, Stephen Sang, has  ordered the immediate suspension of top county health officers and dissolution of Nandi County Health Management Boards and hospital committee, pending probe into corruption allegations.

Speaking at his swearing in ceremony, Governor Sang vowed to wipe out corruption in the county, adding that he will do a lifestyle audit of all county officials and staff.

“I will not tolerate corruption of any sort in my government. Allegations of corruption will be investigated thoroughly and where evidence is found to support those allegations the appropriate disciplinary action will be taken in accordance with the law,” said Sang.

Among the suspended top  county officers are the County Executive Committee member  for health and sanitation, Mr. Mathew Rotich, together with his Chief Officer, Dr. Edward Serem and acting County Director of health Dr. Daniel Kemboi.

The Governor has also instructed the county internal auditor to carry out a detailed report on the revenue collected  by health department during the Governorship of Cleophas Lagat.

Last year, Kapsabet county referral hospital made headlines after patients were forced to buy mattresses and blankets courtesy of alleged misappropriation of funds meant to procure drugs and bedding for patients.

Hospital staff also went on several strikes over poor working conditions in various health facilities across the county.
