Nandi health challenges countys failure Senator Sang

Nandi Senator, Stephen Sang, has urged the County Government of Nandi to intervene following an acute shortage of drugs and essential medical supplies at the Kapsabet County Referral Hospital.

The shortage has also affected over 196 other government health facilities across the County, a situation that Sang says was revealed following an impromptu visits he had made to assess the situation.

“I understand for four months now, health facilities across the county have lacked drugs and other essential medical supplies while the medical staff has not been paid their salary for ten months,” said Sang.

The Senator added that he is concerned that a review of the medical staff welfare has not been conducted in the county arguing that promotions for young and experienced practitioners is long overdue.

“All these issues are important and we will address them but at the moment we are prioritizing making sure that the facilities have drugs. I have talked with the Kenya Medical Supplies Agency (KEMSA) and the County leadership regarding the necessary funds that the agency requires in order to restore normalcy at the health sector.”

Sang said that it is unfortunate the Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission (EACC) seized Ksh 5.7 million as proceeds of corruption from a top county official while the health sector continued to face a multitude of challenges.
