Nandi leaders warn politicians against using youths to disrupt meetings

Nandi Council of Elders (Kaburwo) has warned political leaders to stop using youths to disrupt political meetings.

This is after Nandi Governor Cleophas Lagat was heckled during Deputy President William Ruto’s visit to Nandi County to mobilise residents to register as voters during the mass voter registration exercise.

Nandi Kaburwo Chairman Mr Benjamin Kitur asked leaders to tear down the politics of intolerance and hate speech, citing that it can easily create violence and unnecessary tension in the country.

According to Kitur, leaders in power should be respected and the electorate should be allowed to decide whether to vote for or against leaders, adding that the use of heckling and bitter words is not the right way to do it.

Clement Keino, the Kaburwo vice chairman said that the elders will soon parade leaders propagating hate speech and political incitement in the county.

He warned that the leaders would face dire consequences if they continue inciting the public for selfish political gains.

The elders appealed to politicians across the political divide to refrain from making statements that could easily cause disunity among Kenyans ahead of the August 8 General Election.

The elders were speaking at Kapsabet Town during a meeting convened to streamline Nandi county issues.

This comes just days after Makueni County Governor Kivutha Kibwana was heckled in his own backyard.
